The Role of the Teacher Librarian

Greetings,

I am digesting and considering all I have currently read about the role of the Teacher Librarian (TL). It seems to be quite complicated, full of catch phrases and also the headings seem to overlap. Not being employed as a TL means that I have limited practical experience to compare with the written articles. Nevertheless, I find that information literacy is the key term here, everything stems from that. Technology is also very important, the TL role is now linked inextricably with technology, TL's have to keep up-to-date. Leadership keeps being mentioned, as does collaboration. Then there's the management and organisation part of it. I think I am starting to develop a kind of understanding.... As I read I also get the impression that the TL role is often misunderstood or treated with scepticism within the school and this is hard to deal with and difficult to change. I suppose the TL is often hidden away in the Library and is separate from the teaching staff to some extent. These are my first thoughts on the role of the TL......
